A ferrocerium rod is composed of a sparks-generating alloy containing a mix of rare earth metals. This mix is called “mischmetal”. Containing 21% iron, 42% cerium and 4.4% each of neodymium, magnesium and praseodymium, mischmetal is also 24% lanthanum.
