Where You Connect

A knife’s handle scales are as important to the user as its blade. It’s in the grip that the user, whether on a construction site or in the bush, connects with the tool. Some experience a strong connection with Micarta’s legendary tactility. Others mesh with the nonporous G10, AmeraGrip or wood options. Whatever you select in terms of material, the perfect fixed blade knife handle for your knife, built your way, is right here at Architect Knives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Micarta and G10?

Micarta and G10 are both synthetic, laminated materials. That means they’re created from layers of various things like paper and plastics. Nonporous G10 knife handle scales are made from layers of epoxy and fiberglass, while Micarta is made from similar materials but with organics like paper and cloth added. Micarta does absorb moisture, but G10 is impervious to moisture, making it better for food prep and more.

How do I care for my fixed blade knife handle?

Don’t ever forget to dry and properly clean your knife handle every time you use your knife. Thoroughly dry the handle scales, and properly store your knife in an EDC knife sheath. This is especially important with a Micarta handle. Because Micarta is more tactile, it’s also slightly porous. Keep it dry!

What’s the difference between knife handle scales and knife handles?

While some use the terms interchangeably, they’re not strictly the same thing. A knife handle is how the blade is held comfortably in the hand. Handle scales add rounded contouring and a texturized grip to your knife, making the handle itself more comfortable and customized to fit the hand.
